FAQs
Planning a trip should feel exciting, not overwhelming. Below are answers to the questions I’m asked most often about working with Best Life Travel, how my planning fees work, and what to expect when we plan your next getaway together.
Working With Best Life Travel
What exactly does a travel advisor do?
A travel advisor is your personal trip designer, advocate, and logistics manager all rolled into one. I help you decide where to go, match you with the right cruise, tour, or resort, handle all the bookings, and manage the details before, during, and after travel. Instead of spending hours online comparing options, you get curated recommendations, expert guidance, and support from a real person who knows you and your travel style.
Do you only work with clients in Ohio?
No. I’m based in Mentor, Ohio, but I work with travelers all over the United States. We can meet in person if you’re local, or by phone, Zoom, or email if you’re not. Everything—from our discovery call to final documents—can be handled virtually.
What types of trips do you specialize in?
I specialize in:
- Ocean and river cruises
- European journeys (especially Italy and France)
- All-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico
- Hosted group trips and special-interest travel (like Christmas Markets and wine-focused journeys)
Most of my clients are 50+ and looking for a comfortable, curated experience with a touch of luxury—whether that’s a Caribbean all-inclusive, a European river cruise, or a multi-city European itinerary.
Why should I use you instead of booking everything myself online?
You can book online—but you’re on your own if something goes wrong. When you work with me, you get:
- Expert recommendations based on real training and experience
- One point of contact instead of multiple websites and call centers
- Help with schedule changes, delays, or issues while you’re traveling
- Insider options you may not find on your own
And in many cases, the price is the same as booking direct—sometimes better—because I have access to preferred partners, promotions, and value-adds.
Planning Process & Fees
How does your planning process work?
My process is simple and intentional:
- Discovery Call – We chat about where you’d like to go, when, budget, and travel style.
- Planning Fee & Agreement – Once we decide to work together, you’ll pay a planning fee and sign a service agreement.
- Customized Itinerary – I research, design, and present curated options that fit your wish list.
- Booking & Management – I handle reservations, payments to travel suppliers, and confirmations.
- Before You Go – You’ll receive final documents, tips, and suggestions to help you feel prepared.
- Support While You Travel – If something comes up, I’m your first call, not a random 800 number.
Why do you charge a planning fee?
Your vacation is an investment, and thoughtful planning takes time and expertise. My planning fee covers the research, design, and management of your trip—similar to a professional fee you’d pay a financial advisor or interior designer. It allows me to provide a higher level of service and ensures I’m working in your best interest, not just chasing the highest commission.
How much are your planning fees?
Planning fees vary based on the complexity and length of the trip. For example, a simple long weekend will have a lower fee than a multi-country European itinerary or a custom group trip. During our discovery call, I’ll recommend the fee level that fits your trip, explain exactly what’s included, and provide it in writing before you decide to move forward.
Do you charge a fee for each person in my group?
In most cases, planning fees are based on the trip as a whole, not per person. For larger groups or hosted group travel, we’ll talk through what’s involved and outline the structure so there are no surprises.
Payments, Pricing & Travel Protection
Do you charge extra on top of what the cruise line or resort costs?
The commission is usually already built into the price of your cruise, tour, or resort—whether you book on your own or through a travel advisor. When you book with me, that built-in commission helps support a small business and gives you personalized service and support. My separate planning fee is clearly outlined up front and is not hidden in your trip cost.
How do payments work? Do I pay you or the travel company?
Planning fees are paid directly to Best Life Travel. All trip payments (deposits, final payments, etc.) are processed through the cruise line, tour operator, or resort supplier. I’ll provide secure links or payment authorization forms and track due dates so nothing is missed.
Do I really need travel insurance?
I strongly recommend travel protection for most trips. Travel insurance can help with trip cancellation, trip interruption, medical emergencies, lost or delayed luggage, and more. I’ll share options that fit your trip and budget, explain what’s covered, and answer questions—but the decision is always yours.
What happens if I need to change or cancel my trip?
Life happens. If you need to make a change, contact me first. I’ll review supplier terms and conditions, work with the cruise line or tour operator on your behalf, and walk you through any change fees or refund policies. If you’ve purchased travel insurance, we’ll also discuss how to submit a claim if that applies.
Destinations, Accessibility & Special Requests
Do you only book cruises and all-inclusive resorts?
No. While cruises and all-inclusive resorts are a big part of what I do, I also plan:
- Land-based European itineraries (cities, trains, small-group tours)
- Pre- and post-cruise stays
- Escorted tours and small-group journeys
- Some U.S. destinations, especially when they tie into a larger trip
If you’re not sure whether your idea is a fit, just ask—I’ll tell you honestly if it’s in my wheelhouse.
Can you help with accessibility needs or mobility concerns?
Yes. I work with many travelers who need wheelchair assistance, slower-paced itineraries, or specific accessibility accommodations. I’ll ask the right questions up front, communicate your needs to cruise lines and suppliers, and recommend options that are more comfortable and realistic for you.
Can you accommodate food allergies or dietary restrictions?
In most cases, yes. Cruise lines, resorts, and tour companies are increasingly flexible with dietary needs (gluten-free, vegetarian, diabetic, etc.). I’ll note your requirements in your reservation, confirm what’s possible, and make sure you know what to expect on board or on tour.
Group Trips & Hosted Journeys
What are your hosted group trips?
Hosted group trips are special departures that I personally promote and sometimes escort—such as European Christmas Markets, wine-focused journeys, or themed cruises. These trips are a great option if you want to travel with like-minded people without having to organize a group yourself.
Can you help my organization or club plan a group trip or fundraiser?
Yes. I partner with clubs, schools, and organizations to create group trips and fundraiser travel experiences. Together we’ll select an itinerary that fits your audience, outline pricing and what’s included, and clarify how the fundraising component works. If you’re interested in exploring this, reach out and we’ll schedule a call.
Getting Started
How do I get started?
The easiest way to begin is to schedule a complimentary discovery call. We’ll talk about where you’d like to go, when, who’s traveling, and what you’re hoping this trip will feel like. From there, I’ll recommend a planning fee level, outline next steps, and once you’re ready, we’ll start designing your trip.
